Estonian police registered 77 reports of telephone and internet fraud over the past weekend, which caused victims significant financial losses. In six cases, the damage amounted to approximately 572,500.

Among the fraudsters was a con artist impersonating a police officer, who managed to extract a substantial sum from victims. Such cases, where criminals pose as trusted officials, have become an increasingly common form of fraud.

Police urge residents to be cautious when receiving calls from unknown numbers requesting the disclosure of personal information or demanding money transfers. Officials never request banking details over the phone or demand immediate money transfers.
