Estonian psychology has reached a level that can be considered an extraordinary achievement in the international scientific community. Three Estonian psychologists have been awarded the title of academician – the late Peeter Tulviste and the married couple Anu Realo and Jüri Allik, both of whom are recognized leaders in their field.

Jüri Allik points out that scientists from Estonia have left their mark at the absolute pinnacle of world psychology. Particularly prominent among diaspora Estonians are memory researcher Endel Tulving and emotion researcher Jaak Panksepp, whose work has fundamentally influenced the field of psychology. "The Estonian psychology story is an extraordinary success story," Allik says.

Beyond the three academicians, there are other scientists deserving of the title, and some two dozen younger psychologists from Tartu and Tallinn have established themselves strongly on the international scientific stage. This demonstrates that psychology education at Estonian universities has been able to develop top-level researchers who compete successfully with the world's leading scientific institutions.

Behind Estonian psychology's success lie both high-quality education and international cooperation. Scientists emerging from Tartu and Tallinn work at leading universities around the world, bringing international prestige to domestic science and upholding Estonia's scientific traditions.
