Alert citizen's tip leads to drunk driver arrest in Lasnamäe, Tallinn

A vigilant resident's call to police on the evening of May 26 helped officers apprehend a drunk female driver near the Ülemiste shopping centre in Tallinn's Lasnamäe district. The woman, driving a Volvo, attempted to flee and rammed a police vehicle in the process.

A tipoff from an alert Tallinn resident helped police prevent a potential road tragedy in the Lasnamäe district on the evening of May 26. Acting on the call, officers located a drunk woman behind the wheel of a Volvo near the Ülemiste shopping centre in the eastern Tallinn neighbourhood.

When police moved to detain her, the driver attempted to escape — ramming a police vehicle in the process. Officers were ultimately able to stop the car and detain the woman. No serious injuries were reported as a result of the collision with the patrol car.

The incident is a reminder of how important civilian vigilance can be in keeping roads safe. Authorities regularly encourage members of the public to report suspected drunk drivers rather than attempting to intervene themselves.
