TechnologyApple's annual developer conference WWDC 2026 opened on Monday at 10 a.m. (8 p.m. Estonian time) at Apple Park in Cupertino, California. The week-long event brings anticipated announcements about iOS 27, an enhanced Siri artificial intelligence, and the Apple Intelligence platform, along with developer seminars and demo sessions.
Tim Cook's final WWDC
This year's conference holds special significance, it is the last WWDC for CEO Tim Cook as leader of Apple. Cook has been Apple's CEO since 2011, and his departure marks the end of one of the longest chapters in the company's history. The keynote was therefore both a presentation of technological news and a kind of farewell to an era.
The most attention was drawn to the Siri artificial intelligence update package, which enables significantly deeper integration with third-party applications and personal data. The Apple Intelligence system will gain new capabilities to better understand context and perform more complex tasks on behalf of the user.
iOS 27 and other platforms
iOS 27 brings a visually refreshed interface, enhanced notification management, and new privacy-focused tools. In addition to iOS, updates were introduced for iPadOS, macOS, and watchOS. Developers will receive new software development tools during the conference to prepare for the autumn public release.
Apple emphasized at the conference that AI features are designed with privacy in mind, most processing happens on-device locally, without sending data to the cloud. This has been an important sales argument for the company during a time when AI ethics and data protection are receiving wider public attention.
