Berlin's Thomas Ostermeier brings 'A History of Violence' to Riga in June

The Schaubühne Berlin production of 'A History of Violence', directed by Thomas Ostermeier, will be staged in Riga on June 5 and 6. The performance is based on Édouard Louis' novel of the same name.

Riga theatre audiences will have the opportunity to see one of Europe's most celebrated stage productions this summer, as Berlin's Schaubühne theatre brings its acclaimed adaptation of 'A History of Violence' to the Latvian capital on June 5 and 6.

The production is the work of renowned director Thomas Ostermeier, one of the most influential figures in contemporary European theatre. Ostermeier has led the Schaubühne Berlin since 1999 and is widely recognised for his bold, socially engaged approach to staging both classic and contemporary works.

The performance is based on French author Édouard Louis' autobiographical novel of the same name, in which he recounts a violent sexual assault he experienced on Christmas Eve and its harrowing aftermath. Louis' raw and unflinching storytelling has made the book a landmark work in contemporary French literature.

Riga is set to host the production for two nights only, offering Baltic audiences a rare chance to experience a work that has garnered widespread critical acclaim across European stages.
