Young mother and content creator Karin Larven shares her list of favourite books, which includes both romance and thriller novels as well as historical fiction. Her selection features world-renowned authors such as Kristin Hannah and Sally Rooney, along with sport-themed inspirational literature.
CultureContent creator and young mother Karin Larven has compiled her list of favourite books, sharing ten works that have deeply moved her. The selection ranges from dreamy love stories to darker family secrets and historical novels.
Summer reading
The list opens with a love story infused with a touch of magical realism, which Larven describes as a warm, nostalgic and dreamy piece of work, ideal as a companion by the poolside or on the beach. She admits that she read the entire book in just one day while staying in Italy.
Bonnie Garmus's novel "Lessons in Chemistry," by a popular author, is justifiably extremely popular according to Larven. "An ambitious and strong female protagonist captivates with her uniqueness and the story simply inspires," she explains, adding that the work is also sharp-witted and humorous. The book addresses the role of women in society several decades ago.
Thrillers and sports stories
For thriller enthusiasts, Larven recommends Liz Moore's "The God of the Woods." According to her assessment, it is a dark story about family secrets, disappearances and the hidden tensions of a small community that grips the reader and doesn't let go until the final page is turned.
Taylor Jenkins Reid appears on the list twice. She also highlights the work "Carrie Soto Is Back," which tells the story of a rising tennis star's journey in the world of sport. "The tension-filled sports matches captivate me completely as a reader," writes Larven.
Thoughtful and emotional works
Sally Rooney's "Intermezzo" is on Larven's list as a work that requires patience from the reader but repays it handsomely. "Sally Rooney is an author you either love or hate, and I tend to love her," she admits. The book portrays the complicated relationship between two brothers following their father's unexpected death and is, according to Larven, written with great authenticity.
The list closes with Kristin Hannah's "The Nightingale," which Larven considers one of the most beloved works by one of the greatest historical fiction writers. The moving story of two sisters during the Second World War leaves readers deeply affected. From the same author, Larven recommends paying attention to "The Four Winds" and "The Women."
