Day 1568 of war: Ukraine strikes Cheboksary with Flamingo missiles from 1,000 km away
Ukraine struck Cheboksary with Flamingo missiles from nearly 1,000 kilometres away from the border. Drones operated across more than 20 Russian regions, and an air alert was issued in Omsk Oblast for the first time.
PoliticsUkrainian armed forces struck Cheboksary, the capital of Chuvashia, with Flamingo-type missiles on Tuesday. The city lies deep within Russian territory, approximately 1,000 kilometres from Ukraine's border. This represents one of the most distant targets Ukraine has hit with a missile strike.
At the same time, Ukrainian drones conducted strikes across more than twenty Russian regions, causing widespread domestic disruption. Particularly notable was the first-ever air alert issued in Omsk Oblast, a region in Western Siberia located more than 2,000 kilometres from Ukraine's border.
Scale of attacks grows
The geographic reach of Ukrainian strikes has expanded significantly in recent months. The ability to hit more distant targets demonstrates that Ukraine now has access to increasingly long-range weapon systems capable of penetrating deep into Russian territory.
Flamingo is a cruise missile type produced in Ukraine, used with increasing frequency to strike Russian civilian and industrial infrastructure. Cheboksary is home to several manufacturing facilities, including defence industry installations.
Day 1568 of war
The Russia-Ukraine war has now lasted 1,568 days since Russia's full-scale invasion began on 24 February 2022. The use of Ukrainian drones and missiles against Russian territorial targets has become a daily aspect of hostilities, intensifying pressure on Russian civilian and military infrastructure.
