Day 1569 of war: Zelensky confirms long-range weapons plan is proceeding

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that the country's long-range weapons plan is being implemented as scheduled. Russia has been attacking Ukraine since 24 February 2022, when Vladimir Putin ordered a full-scale invasion. Battles are taking place primarily in eastern and southern Ukraine.

Ukraine's war has now lasted 1,569 days. Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Ukraine's long-range weapons plan is being executed precisely as planned, signalling that the country will continue to apply pressure on Russian targets beyond the immediate front line.

Current situation in the war

After Ukrainian forces repelled Russia's offensive on Kyiv in spring 2022, the focus of military operations has shifted to the country's eastern and southern regions. Heavy fighting continues there, with both sides seeking tactical advantages along the extended front line.

Vladimir Putin launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022, violating international law and triggering one of Europe's largest humanitarian crises since the Second World War. Ukraine has continued its resistance with international military and economic support.

Long-range weapons hold strategic importance

The use of long-range weapons has become increasingly significant in the conflict. Ukraine has struck Russian military infrastructure, fuel depots and logistical hubs to weaken the adversary's supply chains. According to Zelensky, the plan's progress on schedule demonstrates that Ukraine's military strategy is yielding results.
