Demolished Virtsu lighthouse to be replaced by new one by end of summer

The Estonian Transport Administration, together with the Defence League, demolished the Virtsu lighthouse. A new lighthouse is set to be erected in its place by the end of summer.

The Estonian Transport Administration (Transpordiamet), in cooperation with the Defence League (Kaitseliit), has demolished the old Virtsu lighthouse. The structure was brought down as part of plans to replace it with a modern facility.

A new lighthouse is expected to be constructed at the same location by the end of summer. The demolition marks the end of the old structure's service, making way for an updated navigational aid at the Virtsu site on Estonia's western coast.

Virtsu is a key maritime location on the Estonian mainland, serving as a gateway to the islands of Muhu and Saaremaa. Lighthouses in the area play an important role in guiding ferry and maritime traffic through the waters of the West Estonian Archipelago.
