Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen is prepared to form her third government following protracted coalition negotiations. The left-wing leader has previously clashed with Donald Trump over the Greenland question. Frederiksen is one of Denmark's longest-serving current leaders.
PoliticsDanish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen is ready to announce the formation of a new government following lengthy coalition negotiations. The centrist politician is thus returning to her third term as head of state.
Frederiksen has been in the international spotlight in recent months over the Greenland question. US President Donald Trump has repeatedly expressed interest in acquiring Greenland, creating tensions between Denmark and the United States. Frederiksen has stood firmly against such notions, emphasising that Greenland is not for sale.
The formation of the new government has taken longer than usual because coalition partners have had to work through several complex political issues. The Danish political landscape is fragmented, and reconciling the interests of different parties requires substantial compromises.
Frederiksen has been Danish Prime Minister since 2019 and is one of the Nordic region's most influential left-wing leaders. Under her leadership, Denmark has tackled migration and energy policy reforms and has actively supported Ukraine following Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022.
