Dentists warn: this everyday drink turns teeth yellow

Dentists warn that yellowing teeth do not always result from poor oral hygiene. The culprit may be found in everyday foods and habitual drinks.

Culture

Many people brush their teeth twice a day, yet notice that their smile has become duller and their teeth more yellow. According to dentists, the cause may not lie in poor hygiene-the source of the problem could be what we drink every day.

Specialists draw attention to the fact that certain drinks contain substances that stick to tooth enamel and discolour it over time. Regular exposure to such drinks can neutralize even the most careful tooth-brushing routine.

Dentists recommend limiting the consumption of drinks containing colouring agents and acids, and brushing teeth some time after eating and drinking. Drinking water after pigmented drinks can also help by rinsing the mouth clean and reducing the contact of substances with tooth enamel.
