Endel Sõerde at 100: legendary television presenter and Estonia's first scuba diver

His voice and face were familiar to Estonians from the screen for decades, yet few know that Sõerde's life was far more multifaceted than television work alone.
Alongside his television career, Sõerde devoted himself actively to underwater sports. He worked as an underwater sports referee and harboured a keen interest in underwater archaeology. Particularly noteworthy is the fact that Endel Sõerde is reportedly the first Estonian to go scuba diving, an achievement that earns him a place in the pages of Estonian sports history.
Sõerde's centenary is a good opportunity to remember a person whose contribution to the development of Estonian television was invaluable, and to remind ourselves that even the greatest figures of public life are often far more than just their job title.
