Estonian Foreign Minister [Margus Tsahkna](/politicians/margus-tsahkna) held talks with Hungarian Ambassador to Estonia Ivan Medveczky, covering key European security issues including Russia's ongoing war against Ukraine and the importance of advancing EU enlargement progress.

Tsahkna described the meeting as having gone well, signalling a positive tone in bilateral relations between Tallinn and Budapest. Estonia has at times been at odds with Hungary over the latter's approach to the Ukraine conflict and its relations with Russia, making the constructive tone of the meeting noteworthy.

The Estonian foreign minister also welcomed what he characterised as a new course being taken by Hungary — a signal that Tallinn sees movement in Budapest's foreign policy positioning. Hungary, under Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, has been a frequent outlier within the EU on matters related to Ukraine support and sanctions against Russia.
