SportEstonian motocross rider Jörgen-Matthias Talviku achieved his career-best result on Sunday at the motocross world championship round held on the legendary sand track in Kegumsi, Latvia. The 23-year-old from Pärnu finished the second race of the MXGP class in eighth place and scored 11th in the overall round standings.
The result is remarkable because Talviku achieved it without the support of a major factory team, which most of his competitors can rely on. The world's top riders are often backed by support teams of dozens of people, but according to Talviku, his team does almost everything themselves, while factory teams come with armies of people.
The Kegumsi track in Latvia is known in the motocross world as one of the most demanding sand surfaces, where success requires both physical endurance and technical skill. The quality of Talviku's performance is underscored by the fact that he managed to stand out in such competition without major resources.
