Estonia's single-parent benefit to rise to 100 from September

The Reform Party faction in the Riigikogu has proposed raising the single-parent benefit from 80 to 100 per month, effective 1 September 2025. The amendment was submitted as part of the 2026 supplementary budget bill. MP Joller acknowledged the state's limited capacity to increase the benefit further.

Estonia's single-parent benefit is set to increase from 80 to 100 per month starting 1 September 2025, following an amendment proposed by the Reform Party faction in the Riigikogu to the 2026 supplementary budget bill.

The change represents a 20 monthly increase for single parents across Estonia — a group that advocates have long argued receives insufficient state support. The amendment was submitted to the Riigikogu today as part of ongoing deliberations over the supplementary budget.

Joller, speaking on behalf of the Reform Party faction, noted that while the increase is a step in the right direction, the state's financial constraints make it impossible to raise the benefit by a larger amount at this time. «Riigina ei ole meil lihtsalt võimalik toetust rohkem tõsta,» Joller said, signalling that further increases would depend on improved budget conditions.

The supplementary budget bill for 2026 is currently under review in parliament, and the single-parent benefit amendment is among several social spending proposals being debated. If approved, the increase would directly benefit thousands of single-parent households in Estonia.
