Estonia's Sipsiku Coin Sold Out, Secondary Market Asking Multiples More

On 5 June 2026, Eesti Pank released a special two-euro commemorative coin dedicated to Sipsik, a beloved character from Estonian children's literature. Of the one million coins minted, only a portion was packaged into numismatic coin cards sold to collectors, which sold out rapidly. Now resellers on the secondary market are asking many times the original price for these cards.

Estonia

Eesti Pank released a two-euro commemorative coin on 5 June 2026 featuring one of Estonia's most recognisable children's literature characters, Sipsik. A total of one million coins were minted, but only a small portion were packaged into numismatic coin cards aimed at collectors, making them particularly coveted among numismatists.

Circulation Gone in a Flash

The initial circulation of coin cards sold out surprisingly quickly, and many enthusiasts were left empty-handed. This opened the door for resellers, who are now offering coin cards on the secondary market at prices many times higher than their face value or original retail price.

On collectors' forums and online marketplaces, listings can be seen demanding unreasonably high sums for Sipsik coin cards. Demand clearly exceeds supply, creating favourable conditions for speculative pricing.

Sipsik is a Cultural Icon

Sipsik is a puppet character created by Eno Raud, who has been a favourite of Estonian children for decades. The puppet brought to life in the eponymous book symbolises childhood and the heritage of Estonian children's literature, which is why a coin dedicated to it holds emotional significance for many Estonians.

Eesti Pank has previously minted thematic euro coins, but the Sipsik coin has sparked extraordinary interest among both the general public and collectors.
