Family of Maido, killed in Valga, in shock: accused Carlos Pikk partying freely at Midsummer celebration
Carlos Pikk, accused in a murder committed in Valga in April, attended the city's Midsummer festival on 23 June, shocking the family of the deceased Maido. According to the prosecutor's office, there was no legal basis for the man's arrest, and he remains free under electronic supervision.
PoliticsValga's Midsummer celebration became a painful shock for the relatives of the murdered Maido, when a man openly celebrating among the crowds was spotted-a man linked to the murder of their family member.
Tragic background
In early April, 37-year-old Maido was found dead on the banks of the Pedeli River in Valga. The incident shook the local community and police launched a murder investigation. One of the suspects is 24-year-old Carlos Pikk.
Accused seen at Midsummer celebration
Maido's mother Sirje turned to the media after Midsummer, when her brother saw Carlos Pikk at Valga's Midsummer bonfire on 23 June, where he was spending time cheerfully among other celebration-goers. "Carlos Pikk is free, he was at Valga's Midsummer bonfire on 23 June and spent time having fun there," said Maido's mother, adding that according to her information, the man should be under electronic supervision in the community. "Is he allowed to attend public events? In any case, this causes concern and fear in our family."
Prosecutor's explanation
A representative of the prosecutor's office confirmed that there was no legal basis to arrest Carlos Pikk. The man remains free, but with certain restrictions-he is not allowed to leave his residence without permission for longer than three days. Conditions of electronic supervision do not exclude attendance at public events.
The situation remains incomprehensible to Maido's family. "How is this possible?" asks the mother, who believes that the accused's presence at a public event in the same city where the murder took place is morally wrong, even if it is not prohibited by law.
