Younger led MI6, formally known as the Secret Intelligence Service, from 2014 to 2020, and was one of the most publicly visible heads in the agency's history. Under his leadership, the intelligence service spoke increasingly openly about its role and the challenges facing Britain.
During his tenure, Younger repeatedly warned of growing Russian and Chinese intelligence activities and emphasized the importance of cybersecurity for national security. He was also among the first senior intelligence officials to speak publicly about the impact of artificial intelligence on intelligence operations.
