French parliament has only 6 months left for legislative work

French National Assembly members have less than six months before the presidential election to pass legislation. During this time, parliamentarians must review the budget, justice, housing and agriculture laws, and address the problem of violence against children. MPs' work ends on 28 February 2027, two months before the presidential election.

Politics

French National Assembly members have just six months of intensive legislative work ahead before parliamentarians must wind down their activities and prepare for the presidential election.

A long agenda, little time

The list of laws awaiting review is lengthy: the state budget, justice reform, security issues, housing policy, agriculture, and preventing violence against children. At the same time, the time available for debate shrinks every week.

National Assembly members will end their work on 28 February 2027, two months before the presidential election, which takes place in April 2027. This means that in reality there is very little time left for legislative activity, taking into account also the parliament's summer recess and other interruptions.

Looking ahead

Against a backdrop of political pressure, questions are emerging about how many MPs are already thinking more about their next career move than about their current responsibilities. The pre-election period inevitably brings intensified party politics and displays of personal ambitions.

Special attention has fallen on the role of Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu: will he be able to keep the coalition together and ensure that important legislative initiatives do reach the final vote?
