CultureEstonian musician Ingmar Kiviloo recently introduced his new composition "Homeland Suite", a work deeply rooted in personal history. In the programme "Terevision", he spoke about how the piece was born from his grandparents' life stories and memories.
According to Kiviloo, the composition drew breath from his grandparents' story of having to flee their home during World War II. Additionally, the work is strongly connected to the family's country home in Illi village, which is filled with nostalgic memories for the musician.
"Homeland Suite" thus interweaves personal history and a universal theme of homeland and the pain of departure—a theme that resonates with many Estonians whose families experienced wartime trauma.
