IVAN MAKAROV Was the President Fishing While the Drone Flew to Auverre?!

Columnist Ivan Makarov writes about President Alar Karis, who was caught by gossip media through a fishing photo before an expected political decision. Makarov reflects on the president's media space and how public figures inevitably find themselves in the spotlight, even when they don't wish to be.

Columnist Ivan Makarov poses a sharp question: what is happening at the level of the head of state when an important political decision is unfolding in the country and President Alar Karis is out fishing?

A few days ago, a well-known gossip media outlet published a photo showing President Alar Karis casting a line from a boat on choppy seas. The image circulated at a time when the public was anxiously awaiting an important public statement from the president. Gossip columns, of course, don't ask permission to document someone's private moment-that's the nature of the genre.

Makarov draws a parallel to a runaway tanker truck: just as a vehicle doesn't ask a person for permission before hitting them, gossip media doesn't ask the president for permission to document his leisure time. The result is the same-an unexpected collision with public attention at a moment that may not be most opportune.

According to the columnist, the president himself bears no fault in ending up in the pages of a publication not exactly known for dignity. The question, however, is what message reaches the public when the head of state appears to be relaxing at the same moment when the people await a long-promised decision. Midsummer's Day seems to be the moment when the president plans to come ashore, and perhaps also to announce the decision.
