Kallaste hobby farm in Järvamaa: visitors ignore warnings, young goats trampled to death
Kallaste hobby farm in Järvamaa shared a frustrated post on Sunday, drawing attention to visitors ignoring warning signs near the animals. According to the farm owner, the result has been dead kids, and both people and animals are put at risk.
EstoniaKallaste hobby farm, operating in Järvamaa, posted to social media on Sunday morning, 28 June, in a post that prompted frustration among many readers. The farm owner describes a situation where visitors ignore warning signs placed near the animal enclosures, behaving in ways that are dangerous both to themselves and to the animals living on the farm.
According to the owner, the reckless behaviour has resulted in the deaths of young goats. "By doing this they put both their own safety and that of the animals at risk," she stressed in the post. A farm representative said the signs are not there without reason-they were put up specifically to prevent accidents.
The Kallaste hobby farm incident raises a broader question about visitor culture on farms and animal holdings. Farmers often face a dilemma: open their doors to visitors to showcase rural life and animal husbandry, but risk that ignorance or negligence will result in animals being injured or killed. Ignoring warning signs may stem from both carelessness and a failure to understand how serious the consequences can be.
