Kohtla-Järve City Day brings first street food festival and packed squares

Last Saturday, Kohtla-Järve celebrated its city day in a notably different way, with the cultural centre forecourt filled with crowds as the town's first street food festival was launched in grand style. In addition to numerous food vendors, acclaimed artist Karl-Erik Taukar and the band Karavan performed for free.

Kohtla-Järve celebrated its city day last Saturday, 21 June, with a programme quite different from previous years. The forecourt of the cultural centre transformed into a public event space that drew a large number of visitors.

The main news this year was the opening of the town's first street food festival. The food street attracted multiple vendors and offered residents the chance to enjoy diverse cuisine in the open air, something that has been lacking in Kohtla-Järve at this scale until now.

Free concerts drew crowds

The festival programme was not limited to food alone. Free performances on the main stage featured renowned Estonian singer Karl-Erik Taukar, who was joined by the band Karavan to provide entertainment. The concerts packed the square with people, and the atmosphere proved to be lively and cheerful according to the organisers.

Kohtla-Järve City Day has been an important annual community event in Ida-Virumaa's second-largest town. This year's addition of a street food festival to the programme marks a clear desire to make the city day more diverse and involve more residents.
