Legal battle heats up: judge won't rule out criminal case against Tanel Padar
The civil dispute between blogger Mallu Mariann Treimann-Legrant and musician Tanel Padar has escalated significantly. A judge has indicated that criminal proceedings against Padar cannot be ruled out based on witness testimonies submitted to the court.
CultureThe ongoing legal clash between Estonian blogger Mallu Mariann Treimann-Legrant, 36, and well-known musician Tanel Padar, 45, has taken a dramatic new turn in Estonia. According to statements from Treimann-Legrant's legal team, the presiding judge has indicated that a criminal case against Padar cannot be excluded based on the testimonies provided by witnesses in the civil proceedings.
Earlier in May, Estonian tabloid Õhtuleht published screenshots of witness accounts that had also been submitted to the court. In these statements, multiple witnesses described uncomfortable and distressing personal experiences involving the musician. The nature of these accounts appears to have been significant enough to prompt the judge to raise the possibility of criminal proceedings.
The legal team representing Treimann-Legrant confirmed that the judge's remarks represent a notable development in what began as a civil dispute. While the criminal pathway remains speculative at this stage, the acknowledgment from the bench that it cannot be dismissed adds considerable weight to the allegations being made against Padar.
Padar is one of Estonia's most recognised musical figures, known widely for his long career in popular music. The case has attracted significant public attention, and the latest developments are expected to intensify scrutiny around both parties as the proceedings continue.
