Midsummer Day in Estonia will bring heavy showers, but weekend forecast record heat

Midsummer Day will bring cloudy skies and heavy showers to Estonia as a Scandinavian low-pressure system expands across the Baltic Sea. The working week will remain mild and around 20 degrees, but temperatures will rise dramatically by the weekend, reaching as high as 29 degrees on Sunday.

Estonia

Midsummer Day 2026 will turn out wetter than many hoped, with heavy showers and overcast skies expected across Estonia, the Estonian Meteorological and Hydrological Institute reported.

The reason is a low-pressure area accumulating increasingly over Central Europe, while a low-pressure belt stretching over Finland and Scandinavia expands across the Baltic Sea towards Estonia. The first showers will reach the islands and northern mainland during the night.

Midsummer Day weather hour by hour

Cloud cover will thicken gradually overnight, and by morning heavy showers will already be falling in parts of North and West Estonia. Wind will blow from the south-east at speeds of 1-7 m/s, with gusts of 4-10 m/s from the south-west on the islands and western coast, occasionally reaching 13 m/s. Overnight temperatures will drop to between 8 and 14 degrees.

Midsummer morning will start with cloudy skies and rain showers. South-westerly winds will reach 3-9 m/s, occasionally gusting up to 13 m/s on the islands and western coast. Air temperature will be 13 to 16 degrees by morning.

During the day, conditions will be cloudy with some clearing spells and scattered showers in many places. Towards evening, clouds and precipitation will thin out starting from the islands. South and south-westerly winds will blow at 4-9 m/s, occasionally gusting up to 13 m/s, shifting to westerly to north-westerly and weakening by afternoon. Maximum temperatures will be 15 to 21 degrees.

Weekend brings summer heat

The end of the working week will remain mild and around 20 degrees. Thursday will be wetter, Friday will see only scattered showers.

By the weekend, however, conditions will become noticeably warmer. Saturday will see temperatures rise to an average of 25 degrees, and Sunday will reach as high as 29 degrees. Sunday will be the better day for a beach visit, which will also be largely dry, making it the best day for summer celebrations and water activities.
