Mihkels finishes 7th on Giro d'Italia stage 18, regrets final corner decision
Estonian cycling champion Madis Mihkels placed seventh on the 18th stage of Giro d'Italia. It was his fourth top-10 finish at this year's first Grand Tour, but a decision made in the final corner left him with regrets.
SportEstonian cycling champion Madis Mihkels (EF Education – EasyPost) secured seventh place on the 18th stage of Giro d'Italia, a 171-kilometre test that once again saw the Estonian in contention near the finish line.
It was the fourth time this year that Mihkels reached the top ten at the season's first Grand Tour — a remarkable run of consistency for the Estonian rider. However, despite the solid result, Mihkels was left with lingering regret over a decision he made in the final corner of the stage.
Mihkels has been one of the standout Estonian athletes at this year's Giro, repeatedly showing his ability to challenge among the best sprinters and puncheurs in the world. His fourth top-10 finish at the same race underlines his growing stature in the professional peloton.
