Ministry of Economics Presents LGBT+ Equality Action Plan
Estonia's Ministry of Economics and Communications unveiled an action programme this week aimed at promoting equal opportunities for sexual minorities and people with diverse gender identities. The programme focuses on education, healthcare, and legal affairs.
EstoniaEstonia's Ministry of Economics and Communications unveiled a new action programme this week designed to promote equal opportunities for LGBT+ community members. The programme encompasses three main areas: education, healthcare, and legal affairs.
The action programme is aimed at implementing practical changes that would improve the daily lives of sexual minorities and people with diverse gender identities. In education, the goal is to create a more inclusive learning environment; in healthcare, to ensure more accessible medical services that account for minority needs; and in legal affairs, to strengthen the principles of equal treatment.
The programme's presentation comes at a time when equality issues have attracted broader public attention in Estonia. In 2023, Estonia made history as the first EU member state in the former Soviet space to legalise same-sex marriage. The Ministry of Economics' initiative demonstrates that the promotion of equality continues across other policy areas.
