The Estonian Olympic Committee's crowdfunding platform My Athlete marks its first year of operation in July and celebrates with positive results, over €130,000 has been invested in Estonian sport through the platform, surpassing the original target set when the platform was created.

41 projects and 2,139 donations over the year

During its first year of operation, My Athlete has published a total of 41 projects. These have received 2,139 donations in support, demonstrating that Estonian sports enthusiasts have embraced the new community-based fundraising model.

The platform was created to bring athletes and their supporters closer together and to offer a transparent and community-driven way to fund Estonian sport.

Young triathletes' campaign emerged as the most successful

The platform's most successful project has been the joint fundraising campaign by young triathletes Liis Kapten and Gregor Rask. Its aim is to fund their training in England alongside an Olympic triathlon champion and world-class athletes. The longer-term goal is to compete at the 2028 Los Angeles and 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games.

Gerd Kanter, president of the Estonian Olympic Committee, emphasized that the money collected goes directly into athletes' everyday activities. "This €130,000 is not dry statistics. This is money that goes straight into athletes' training, competition trips, and equipment. Everyone who has made a contribution through My Athlete has actually helped a specific athlete move forward at a specific moment. Such direct support is invaluable and shows that Estonians hold sport and athletic success close to their hearts," said Kanter.

Kristo Tohver, secretary general of the EOC, added that the platform's mission is to bring Estonians closer to sport than ever before. "Sport is an emotion that unites people and an entire nation. The My Athlete platform aims to bring people closer to Estonian sport than ever before, so that every Estonian feels that their contribution counts and helps advance Estonian sport toward new victories," he said.
