NATO general: Russia must abandon empire restoration plan

NATO's Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) strategic communications director Brigadier General Jay Jensen said that restoring the Russian Empire is among Russia's key strategic objectives, but this strategy is not viable. According to Jensen, Russia must abandon this goal and find an alternative solution.

NATO's Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) strategic communications director Brigadier General Jay Jensen warned that Russia's strategic ambitions are unsustainable, and the country faces a choice: seek compromise or move to an entirely new plan.

In an interview with LETA, Jensen explained that one of Russia's main strategic objectives is restoring the Russian Empire. However, he stressed that such a strategy is not viable or realistic, which is why Russia must eventually abandon it and find an alternative path forward, a plan B.

NATO's message to Moscow

Jensen's statement reflects broader NATO positions, according to which Russia cannot sustain its current military and political course in the longer term. The allies' united strategic communication is increasingly aimed at sending Moscow a clear message: Western unity will not break, and Russian ambitions will meet sustained resistance.

SHAPE is NATO's highest military command in Europe, coordinating allied military operations and strategic planning across the continent. Brigadier General Jensen's role as strategic communications director means his statements reflect the alliance's official position.
