NB8 Summit: Ukraine's Role in Europe's Defence System Grows
Prime ministers of the Nordic and Baltic countries met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, reaffirming continued support for Ukraine. The meeting underscored that defence cooperation is increasingly becoming reciprocal, as Ukraine possesses innovative military experience to share with European partners.
PoliticsPrime ministers of the Nordic and Baltic countries (NB8) met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, jointly reaffirming firm support for Ukraine in its defence against Russia. At the meeting, participants stressed that allied assistance to Ukraine will continue as long as it is needed.
Particular attention was paid to the evolving nature of military cooperation. Participants noted that cooperation with Ukraine is no longer one-directional; Ukraine has acquired unique combat experience and innovative warfare capabilities that European partners can use to strengthen their own defence capacity.
During the conflict, Ukraine has developed numerous innovative solutions, including drone technology and electronic warfare, which offer valuable lessons for Europe's entire defence system. The NB8 leaders indicated that such knowledge exchange is becoming an integral part of European security cooperation.
The NB8 format unites eight countries, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, and has become an important regional cooperation platform, particularly in response to Russia's military aggression against Ukraine. The meeting confirmed that the region's countries view Ukraine not only as an aid recipient but also as a full-fledged partner in shaping Europe's security architecture.
