Legendary Estonian conductor Neeme Järvi recently celebrated his 89th birthday and remains brimming with energy and passion for music. In the programme "Hunger for Sound", the maestro said that he possesses unstoppable momentum that is almost impossible to resist.

"I have great momentum within me that is very hard to restrain," Järvi admitted, his career spanning decades and having taken him to stages across the world. According to the maestro, choosing music is not a profession but a calling.

For Järvi, conducting is the best profession because through music one can embrace the entire world. He says no other profession is capable of offering such emotional connection with so many people at once.

It was Järvi's hairdresser mother who introduced him to music, instilling in the young Neeme a love of sound. His elder brother Vallo, fourteen years his senior, also became an important role model, setting an example for young Neeme to follow.
