Brazil's fans have cause for celebration: Neymar, who missed the first two World Cup matches due to a calf injury, is expected to return to action in the final group stage match against Scotland, which will be played next Thursday.

"On Saturday he will still train alone, but on Monday he will join the team's training and will be ready for the Scotland match," Brazil's head coach Carlo Ancelotti confirmed to ESPN. The 34-year-old Neymar is Brazil's all-time leading international goalscorer, with 79 goals in 129 matches.

Turkey eliminated from tournament

Turkey lost its second group match to Paraguay 0:1 and is already on the verge of elimination from the tournament before the final round, along with Haiti. Following the match, both players and coach publicly apologized to their country.

Midfielder Arda Güler said: "We are very sad and ashamed. We apologize to all the people. In the next tournaments we will give our best. We play for great clubs and should have proved it here too."

Goalkeeper Uğurcan Çakır added: "I apologize to my country. We wanted to make everyone proud, but we failed. The expectations were high, but we did not meet them. I also want to apologize to everyone who came to watch us at the World Cup."

Montella consoles team

Head coach Vincenzo Montella acknowledged that the results are painful, but defended his players: "The team showed its spirit and fought until the last breath. We have to accept these results, even though there is nothing logical about them. Football is the king of sports for a reason and sometimes the best team simply doesn't win. That's sport."

Tonight and Saturday morning, the World Cup continues with the second round of matches in groups E and F. Scheduled are Netherlands vs. Sweden and Germany, which demolished Curaçao 7:1 in their previous match, face Ivory Coast.
