Ogier hints 2025 WRC season could be his last after 20 years in rallying
Nine-time world rally champion Sébastien Ogier has not ruled out retiring after the current season, saying he has been racing for nearly two decades. The Toyota driver remains in excellent form but acknowledges the time has come to consider his future in WRC.
SportNine-time World Rally Championship title holder Sébastien Ogier has left his future in motorsport open, refusing to rule out the possibility that the 2025 WRC season could be his last behind the wheel at the top level.
The Toyota driver, who claimed his ninth world title last year, told reporters he has not yet made any decisions about retirement but acknowledged that nearly two decades of professional rallying is a long time. «I have already been rallying for quite some time,» Ogier noted, suggesting the thought of stepping away is no longer far from his mind.
Ogier, widely regarded as one of the greatest rally drivers in history, has dominated the WRC landscape across multiple manufacturer stints — most notably with Volkswagen, before later spells with M-Sport Ford and now Toyota Gazoo Racing. His nine titles place him ahead of all rivals in the all-time standings.
Despite his remarkable longevity and continued competitiveness, the Frenchman has in recent seasons adopted a selective calendar approach, choosing not to contest every round of the championship. That schedule allows him to remain sharp while balancing other commitments, but it also fuels speculation about when a full retirement announcement may come.
For now, fans and the rallying world will have to wait. Ogier has given no firm timeline, and with his pace still matching that of much younger competitors, the door to one more season — or even another title challenge — appears far from closed.
