One High-Voltage Pylon in Putukavilla, Tallinn May Remain
Tallinn Mayor Peeter Raudsepp announced in the city council that one high-voltage pylon operated by Elering in the Putukavilla district may be retained. The reason is that repairing the pylon is cheaper than dismantling it, as the pylon is connected to a local facility.
EstoniaTallinn Mayor Peeter Raudsepp stated in the city council's question-and-answer session that not all high-voltage pylons in Putukavilla will necessarily be demolished. At least one of them, which belongs to electricity system operator Elering, may be left in place.
Raudsepp explained that the pylon in question is directly connected to a facility in the area, which means dismantling it would be significantly more costly than simply repairing and retaining it. Therefore, it is economically more sensible to preserve the pylon rather than demolish it.
High-voltage lines and pylons in Putukavilla have been a topic of urban design discussion in Tallinn for some time, as residents wish to improve the urban landscape and move the lines underground. The fate of the facilities operated by Elering, however, depends on technical and economic considerations.
