Paide's former coach Vassiljev lashes out in Latvia: "I have never seen refereeing like this"
Vladimir Vassiljev, a well-known Estonian football coach who currently manages Latvian club FK Liepaja, saw his team lose to RFS 0:2 in a match that saw two red cards issued. Vassiljev reacted sharply to the referee's performance after the game.
SportLatvian top-flight football saw heated emotions on Saturday when FK Liepaja lost 0:2 at home to RFS and finished the match with only nine players after receiving two red cards.
After the match, Liepaja head coach Vladimir Vassiljev, a well-known Estonian coach who previously managed both Paide Linnameeskond and FC Levadia, could not contain his frustration. "I have never seen refereeing like this," Vassiljev said after the match, making it clear that in his view the whistling had unfairly influenced the result.
Vassiljev is one of the most prominent specialists connected to the Estonian football world, having built a remarkable career both in Estonia and abroad. Under his guidance, Paide Linnameeskond and FC Levadia had experienced several successful seasons, which is why the Estonian football community is watching his progress in Latvia with great interest.
FK Liepaja is one of the traditional clubs in the Latvian top flight, and Vassiljev's arrival as head coach attracted attention on both sides of the Estonia-Latvia border at the time. However, a home defeat with two red cards is a painful setback for the club in the middle of the season.
