Parliamentary Anti-Corruption Committee Initiates Bill Establishing Cooling-Off Period for Officials
The Riigikogu's anti-corruption committee has initiated a bill that would allow a cooling-off period of up to one year for public officials. This would mean that a former official could not immediately take a job at a company whose activities they have substantially influenced over the past year.
PoliticsThe Riigikogu's anti-corruption committee has initiated a bill amending the anti-corruption law, aimed at limiting the so-called revolving-door effect-the situation where high-ranking officials move from the public sector to the private sector they previously oversaw.
According to the bill, it would be possible to impose a cooling-off period of up to one year on a public official, during which they could not begin work at an employer whose activities they have substantially influenced over the past year. The application of the restriction would be based on necessity, not automatically applied to all officials.
