Pärnu basketball club head Johan Kärp: playing in the top division is not ruled out
Pärnu's basketball team's season ended again without a medal, despite offering Tartu a competitive playoff series. Club head Johan Kärp acknowledges mistakes made and does not rule out that Pärnu could soon play in the top division.
SportPärnu's basketball team's 2025/2026 season ended in disappointment once again, with the medal drought now lasting three consecutive years. Although they put up a tough fight against Tartu in the playoffs, they ultimately had to leave empty-handed.
Club head Johan Kärp summed up the season in a lengthy interview and made no secret of the mistakes that were made. "Looking at it honestly, we did make decisions that in hindsight we would handle differently," Kärp said.
At the same time, Kärp stressed that the club has no intention of throwing in the towel. According to him, Pärnu basketball has long-term development potential and the club is working consistently to get the team back to winning ways.
Remarkably, Kärp does not rule out that Pärnu could find itself in the second division in a few years' time. Whether this would be a strategic step back to gather strength or an unwanted scenario, the head has not clarified, but the remark sent a clear signal that the club is assessing its position critically.
Basketball fans in Pärnu are hoping that next season the team will finally reach the podium and end the three-year wait.
