Photographer Meisi Volt on pregnancy: stylish maternity wear is practically non-existent

Photographer and former TV presenter Meisi Volt is celebrating her birthday this year in extraordinary circumstances-the 38-year-old woman is expecting a baby and has entered a new year of life in a calm and hopeful frame of mind.

Volt admits that while major life changes have frightened her throughout her life, whether a career shift or moving house, the baby announcement has brought an entirely different feeling. "There is much ahead that is wonderful, people grow and learn throughout their lives," she says.

The expectant mother acknowledges that she feels tremendous responsibility unlike anything she has experienced before, but is confident she will manage. "I feel an enormous sense of responsibility that I have never encountered in my life before, but at the same time I am certain that I will be able to handle everything," says Volt.

As a fashion journalist, Volt is acutely aware that clothes designed for pregnant women leave much to be desired in terms of style. In her view, the selection is, to put it mildly, mediocre, and she refuses to buy things that do not appeal to her aesthetically.
