Tallinn hosts the NB8 summit of the Northern and Baltic Countries cooperation format on 9 June, where Estonia welcomes the prime ministers of seven nations. The government has made an extraordinary decision to ensure the security of the event.

On Friday, 5 June, the government approved a decision to engage, alongside the Police and Border Guard Board (PPA), the Defence Force in maintaining public order on 8 and 9 June. Such a joint operation is a standard measure for major international summits.

The NB8 format unites eight countries: Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Iceland. The summit in Tallinn is significant from a regional cooperation perspective, as it provides an opportunity to discuss shared security and economic issues.

The involvement of the Defence Force in maintaining public order is a special measure regulated by law, applied during events with significant security risks. Cooperation between police and military units ensures reliable protection for the summit guests.
