Police detained a 19-year-old Ukrainian citizen suspected of fraud in Haapsalu
On 3 June, police detained a 19-year-old Ukrainian citizen in Haapsalu on suspicion of participating in a money-laundering scheme as a money mule. Police are seeking possible victims and asking them to come forward.
PoliticsOn 3 June 2025, officers from the Western Police Prefecture detained a 19-year-old Ukrainian national in Haapsalu on suspicion of acting as a money mule in a fraud scheme.
According to police, there is reason to believe that the suspect may have harmed other victims through his activities. For this reason, police are asking all people who recognize the young man depicted in the photo or who have suffered financial loss because of him to report it immediately to the email address kelmused@politsei.ee.
Money mules are a crucial link in fraud schemes, their role being to transfer money obtained through fraud on behalf of criminals, making its origin harder to trace. Participation in such schemes exposes the suspect to criminal liability.
