As a qualifier, Chwalinska was not widely known to the broader public before the tournament. "Nobody knows me," said the Polish player after her match, alluding to her surprising success on the Paris clay courts.
French player Parry had hoped to advance further with the support of the home crowd, but Chwalinska proved the stronger opponent. The Polish player's quarterfinal berth ranks among the tournament's biggest surprises.
