Raasiku resident wages war on Spanish slugs: always carries a bucket
Raasiku resident Teele Kruuse discovered Spanish slugs near her garden last year and immediately began collecting them. Kruuse carries a bucket wherever she goes, including to the shops, so she can collect slugs whenever she encounters them. The constant collection effort has already yielded results.
EstoniaRaasiku resident Teele Kruuse has declared war on Spanish slugs, which were discovered near her garden last year. Now she always leaves home with a small bucket in hand, just in case she encounters slugs on the way.
According to Kruuse, she started collecting them immediately after the invasive slugs appeared in her garden. She also enlisted other community members to help prevent the spread of the slugs. "Even when I go to the shops, I take a bucket with me, because you never know where you might encounter them," Kruuse said.
Consistent and determined collection has already produced noticeable results according to Kruuse, with the number of slugs decreasing. Spanish slugs are an invasive species that causes significant damage to Estonian gardens, destroying plants and competing with native species.
