Reform Party's Pillak: Opposition should offer better budget plan, not just hold meetings
The Reform Party proposed that other political parties agree on responsible fiscal policy, reducing the budget deficit by 0.5% annually and setting the debt limit at 30% of GDP. Party representative Pillak called on the opposition either to support the proposal or to offer a better plan of their own.
PoliticsThe Reform Party sent out a press release on Wednesday, 17 June, stating that the party's board supports the Bank of Estonia's proposal to agree on responsible fiscal policy. The party made a concrete proposal to other political forces: reduce the budget deficit by 0.5% annually and set the state's debt ceiling at 30% of gross domestic product.
Reform Party representative Pillak emphasised that the opposition now faces a clear choice: either agree with the proposed framework or present their own concrete alternative plan. According to him, merely organising meetings and limiting oneself to criticism is insufficient in response to the country's fiscal challenges.
The proposal is based on the Bank of Estonia's recommendations, which provide for strengthening budget discipline and setting a clear ceiling on debt burden. The Reform Party believes that such an agreement would create a stable foundation for improving the country's long-term economic situation.
