Reimo Raja recommends: Estonia's concert summer promises to be exciting
Concert enthusiast Reimo Raja spoke on "Terevisioon" about the rich concert offerings in Estonia this summer. He recommended visiting Kings of Leon, Hurts and Cure concerts as well as Kikumu and Punch festivals. According to Raja, the concert experience is much more than just listening to music.
CultureConcert enthusiast Reimo Raja recently attended the Primavera festival in Barcelona and returned full of enthusiasm to discuss Estonia's summer concert programme. Speaking on "Terevisioon", he confirmed that the home country has no shortage of choices this summer.
Kings of Leon and Hurts in Tallinn
On 14 June, Kings of Leon will perform at the Unibet Arena outdoor venue. Raja advised potential visitors not to let bad weather ruin their plans. "Don't be afraid of rain, buy yourself a proper raincoat and it's perfectly fine to enjoy the concert," he chuckled.
On 8 July, British duo Hurts will arrive at Tallinn's Haven Kakumäe. Raja emphasised that the band is already familiar to Estonian audiences and their performances have repeatedly delighted crowds.
Cure, Rita Ray and festivals
Raja considers Cure's concert, taking place on 9 August also at the Unibet Arena outdoor venue, the summer's musical highlight. "With veteran musicians you can always be sure they produce top-quality music. The singer doesn't talk much, but the sound is good. The concert vibe is much more than just listening to music," said Raja, who saw Cure at the Primavera festival in Spain.
Among Estonian artists, Raja recommended definitely listening to singer Rita Ray, who will perform on the last day of July at Hara Harbour in Kuusalu municipality. "She will give you goosebumps," he said.
Punk, alternative and hipster culture
The Punch festival at Tartu's song pavilion will feature HU, Tommy Cash and Swedish punkers Viagra Boys. Raja described the festival's musical selection as trendy and alternative. Õllesummer festival has, in his view, a nostalgic selection of foreign artists, including Finnish legend Dingo.
The Kikumu festival, aimed at hipsters, takes place in the Jäneda manor area in Lääne-Viru County and will feature performers such as Vaiko Eplik and Eliit as well as Panda Bear, known to indie-electronic fans.
Raja also gave festival visitors general advice: come for your favourite artist, but keep your eyes open to other performers. "That way you'll find new and interesting favourites that you'll continue listening to later."
