Roosleht improved personal records in four disciplines at Götzis, but pole vault failure spoiled the result
Estonian decathlete Rasmus Roosleht delivered a strong performance at Götzis, improving his personal record in four individual disciplines. However, a zero in pole vault ruined the overall competition result, though a successful attempt would have brought a new personal record of 8,274 points.
SportEstonian decathlete Rasmus Roosleht produced several standout performances at the competition held in Götzis, improving his personal record in four individual disciplines. Despite this, the overall result was overshadowed by a zero in pole vault, which eliminated the chance to finish the decathlon with a new personal record.
In theory, Roosleht would have completed the decathlon with a score of 8,274 points if he had matched his best pole vault mark of 4.90 metres – this would have represented a new personal record. The athlete took the disappointment calmly, noting that in sport, "ifs and buts don't count."
The Götzis multi-event competition is one of the world's most prestigious decathlon tournaments, and results achieved there are always a strong indicator of an athlete's level. Roosleht's performance showed that his physical fitness is improving in several disciplines, but pole vault remains an ongoing concern, and solving this issue could unlock significantly better results.
