The seventh stage of the EMX250 class European Motocross Championships took place this weekend in Italy at the hard-packed Montevarchi cross track, where Sebastian Leok, competing as Estonia's sole representative, was unable to score points and finished 29th overall.

Difficulties began in qualifying

The EMX250 class attracted only 39 competitors, who all went into qualifying in a single group. Leok set a qualifying time of 1:51.581, which gave him 19th place. Spaniard Francisco Garcia was fastest with a time of 1:48.216.

In the first race held on Saturday, Leok had a middling start and was in 21st position after the first corners. The race quickly turned difficult when Leok crashed and dropped to near the back of the field. The Estonian rider immediately began working his way back up and reached 27th position within a few laps, but opportunities for further progress were limited-the track offered few passing opportunities and rider speeds were fairly evenly matched. Leok ultimately finished 23rd. Garcia won the stage, with Australian Liam Owens second and Brazilian Bernardo Tiburcio third.

Sunday followed the same pattern

In the second race on Sunday, Leok's start was similarly unremarkable, and the Estonian rider ran 22nd in the early laps. On the sixth lap, Leok made a mistake on the slippery track and dropped to 26th position, where he remained to the finish. Garcia triumphed again, followed by Tiburcio and Italian Brando Rispoli.

In the stage's final tally, Leok scored no points and recorded 29th place. Garcia accumulated 50 points in the stage, Tiburcio 42, and Rispoli 32.

Championship standings

In the overall championship standings, Leok sits 18th with 68 points. Series leader Garcia has already accumulated 302 points, Cannon is second with 224 points, and Skovbjerg is third with 195 points.
