Silvia Ilves responds to Kerdo Mölder: "His post has a note of envy"
Singer Kerdo Mölder criticised on social media a special broadcast featuring cellist Silvia Ilves and Marek Nõmmik's wedding reception, saying the programme lacked warmth, sincerity and dignity. Ilves responded that Mölder misunderstood her, but acknowledges an undertone of envy in his post. A comment by Ilves about world-renowned cellist HAUSER also became central to the dispute.
CultureCellist Silvia Ilves found herself under public criticism this week following the broadcast on Monday of a special programme about her and Marek Nõmmik's grand wedding celebration.
Singer Kerdo Mölder responded sharply to the programme on social media. "It lacked warmth, sincerity and dignity," he wrote, and also drew attention to Ilves's comment about world-renowned cellist HAUSER, calling it ugly. Mölder suggested that Ilves should have chosen her words more carefully about such a prominent figure.
Ilves did not remain silent. According to her, Mölder simply misunderstood her, but at the same time she acknowledges that an undertone of envy can be heard in Mölder's criticism. "If he had been invited to the wedding, his opinion would probably be different," said Ilves, making clear that personal resentment at being excluded may lie behind the critique.
The public exchange has sparked a broader debate about when public figures have the right to voice opinions about other creative professionals and where the line lies between honesty and disrespect.
