The F1H2O world championship, the elite class of powerboat racing, opened its new season in Italy over the weekend, with Stefan Arand emerging as the winner of the first round. The German pilot started from third on the grid following qualifying, but managed to move forward during the race and triumph.

F1H2O is the top powerboat racing series, often referred to as the Formula 1 of speedboating – the vessels reach speeds exceeding 220 kilometres per hour. The Italian round provided thrilling competition, where the starting order offered little indication of the final result.
