Sudan ostriches move to new home in Tallinn Zoo's tiger enclosure
On 26 May, three large African birds – Sudan ostriches – moved into a specially adapted enclosure in Tallinn Zoo's tiger enclosure. The large African birds had to move indoors due to the risk of bird flu spread by migratory birds. In their new home, their wings no longer need to be clipped.
EstoniaOn the morning of 26 May, Tallinn Zoo welcomed three large African birds to their new home – Sudan ostriches moved into a specially adapted enclosure in the tiger enclosure.
The distinctive-looking ostriches with their large eyes and beautiful long eyelashes began curiously exploring their new home. In the new enclosure, which has a mesh roof, there is no longer a need to clip the birds' wings – in their previous open-air habitat, this was necessary to prevent the birds from flying away.
The move was prompted by the threat of bird flu associated with migratory birds, which meant the ostriches could no longer live in their previous open-air enclosure. They now live under a roof near the Far East animals.
