Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce reportedly set for July 4th wedding at Madison Square Garden

The New York Times reported on June 24 that pop star Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce plan to marry on July 3, with a grand 1,000-guest ceremony at Madison Square Garden on July 4. However, fans and journalists remain skeptical, as Swift is known for elaborate misdirections, and the June 13 wedding that fans had anticipated never materialized.

Culture

Pop superstar Taylor Swift and NFL star Travis Kelce are reportedly set to wed in New York City around July 4, according to multiple sources cited by The New York Times, though few are willing to bet their certainty on it.

According to the report published on June 24, the couple plan to hold a private ceremony on July 3, followed by a lavish 1,000-person celebration at Madison Square Garden on the Fourth of July, America's Independence Day. New York City authorities reportedly received a request to close streets around the arena from July 2 until noon on July 4, and locals should brace for significant traffic disruptions.

A romance that became a cultural phenomenon

The couple announced their engagement in August 2025, posting on social media: «Your English teacher and your PE teacher are getting married.» The announcement made global headlines, even [Donald Trump],(/politicians/donald-trump), who has had a complicated public relationship with Swift, offered his congratulations.

Swift, 36, is arguably the biggest pop star of the past decade. Her Eras Tour became the highest-grossing concert tour in history, she has topped the Billboard 200 chart 15 times as a solo artist, and she has been named the best-selling musician six times. Kelce, also 36, is widely considered one of the greatest tight ends in NFL history, having been a cornerstone of the Kansas City Chiefs dynasty that reached the Super Bowl five times in eight seasons, winning three.

Why Madison Square Garden?

Rolling Stone suggests the couple chose the iconic New York arena not only for its prestige, it hosts NBA and NHL games and the world's top musical acts, but also for practical security reasons: the venue features secret entrances, underground tunnels, a sophisticated security system, and hidden cameras. The location also holds personal meaning for Swift, who celebrated her 30th birthday there.

The choice of date appears to be another classic Swift «Easter egg.» In July 2023, she hosted a Fourth of July party in Rhode Island, without a partner at the time, and posted photos with the caption: «Happy Independence Day from your local lonely girls. See you tonight, Kansas City.» It was at that Kansas City concert that Kelce first met Swift.

The skeptics have a point

Not everyone is convinced the reported date is real. Swift previously fuelled speculation that her wedding would take place on June 13, her favourite number is 13, in Rhode Island, where she owns a home. Fans and paparazzi who made the trip came away empty-handed.

The Atlantic has raised pointed questions: «Is this simply a decoy date that Swift leaked to expose who is talking to the press? Is Swift actually planning two weddings, one real and one as a distraction? Or are Kelce and Swift already married and somehow managed to keep it secret?»

The guest list and the dress

San Francisco 49ers player George Kittle told Entertainment Tonight that invited guests still do not know the exact location of the wedding. Several Kansas City Chiefs players have reportedly booked rooms at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square around July 3.

Rumoured guests include producer Jack Antonoff, entertainer Graham Norton, model Suki Waterhouse, musician Ed Sheeran, actress Zoë Kravitz, actress Emma Stone, singer Sabrina Carpenter, and models Gigi Hadid and Cara Delevingne, the latter two reportedly as bridesmaids.

As for the dress, The Hollywood Reporter says wedding planner Mark Seed is preparing several outfit changes for Swift. The centrepiece is said to be an exclusive couture gown by Jonathan Anderson for Christian Dior.

Prediction markets on Kalshi and Polymarket are already processing millions of dollars in bets, reportedly the first wedding in history where people can wager on who will serve as bridesmaids. Swift's childhood friend Abigail Anderson, the subject of her song «Fifteen,» is the overwhelming favourite at 84-87% odds.

Rolling Stone is «willing to bet a kidney» that Stevie Nicks, the Fleetwood Mac legend and a long-time Swift inspiration, will perform at the ceremony and may even officiate it.
